BMW Spring Tire Care

Blog

Caring for your BMW's tires is an important part of maintaining safe driving standards. A lot can happen to your car's tires over the course of one year, especially if you live in a cold-weather climate. Following these tips will help you to ensure that your BMW's tires are ready for a warmer-weather driving experience.

Remove the Winter Tires

The characteristic rear-wheel drive and 50/50 weight distribution in many BMWs makes warm-weather driving a smoother and more satisfying experience. Unfortunately, driving a BMW in winter can be tricky. This is why many BMW drivers switch out their standard tires for winter tires at the end of the fall.

While there is no date by which you must have your tires swapped back at the end of winter, driving in warm weather with winter tires on your vehicle can cause the winter tires to degrade quickly. Winter tires also may not perform as well as standard tires when driven on warmer roads. Once you're confident that your region has received all the snow and ice it's going to get for the winter, it's time to take your car in to have the tires switched.

Before taking your car into the BMW service station, take your car down to the car wash, or wash your car's tires at home with a tire cleaner. Scrub the rubber and remove all salt before having the tires removed. Once the tires are off, store your winter tires in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight.

Check Your Tire Pressure

Your car's tire pressure will change with the temperature outside. In warm weather, your tire pressure may become over inflated. In cold weather, your tire pressure may become eflated. If your BMW tires are for all seasons, it's still a good idea to have the pressure checked, because the differences in temperatures outside can influence your tire pressure.

Have Your Alignment Checked

Uneven and slippery road conditions can be hard on your tire's alignment. When your tires are improperly aligned, this contributes to the uneven wear and tear on your tires. Have the BMW repair technician check your tires alignment to ensure that your car's tires wear evenly.

With all this done, your BMW will be ready for spring driving. For more information about how you can maintain your car's tires, seek BMW repair services from a skilled and experienced technician.
